Gavin - 56 years old, small business owner- inattentive type
“Hi my name is Gavin. I have been involved in coaching sessions with Ian Wahlert over the past two years.
I was diagnosed with ADHD (inattentive) around 3 years ago. After visits to psychiatrists and psychologists I decided to try ADHD coaching with Ian about 2 years ago. It was initially intended to help me to become more productive at work i.e. in managing a small business following the passing of the founder, my father, a few years ago.
However, in coming to recognise that ADHD impacts on all areas of my life, our discussions quickly became more wide-ranging. Two years on, I have dispensed with all medications and I am managing my ADHD symptoms better than I have ever done.
Ian’s guidance has been invaluable during this period and his contributions have helped me in multiple areas of my life. These include:
Recognising that the best solutions can often come from me, by asking pertinent questions and prying out formidable solutions. This has helped me to gain enormous confidence in my own ability to overcome my limitations.
When I floundered with some nebulous or laborious task, Ian offered simple, pragmatic advice and suggestions that have allowed me to set and measure my performance toward a goal, celebrating my progress along the way and hence, motivating me not only to task completion, but into enjoying and being present during the journey, avoiding distractions or, for the task itself to become all-encompassing.
He has helped me to apply and work on the solutions that we have devised, holding me accountable so that these absolute jewels of self-management techniques have not got lost in ADHD lethargy or a lack of self-belief.
As for my productivity at work, I am have been able to distill my endless lists of tasks into those that are the most important, the most valuable and the most productive, dispensing with those that do not meet this criteria and hence, encapsulate all the demands on my time into a single page in my journal that I can put down regularly, so that I can fully engage with life (without a nagging sense of guilt..!).
He also has helped me to gain confidence in the person that I am, in the person that I have become, one who can recognise the occasions when ADHD is having an impact on my day and in reflection, the impact it has had on my life, but who is no longer ham-strung by these realties but rather, am able to rise above it.
I recommend Ian in helping you to manage your particular ADHD symptoms. His easy-going nature and sanguine approach to the subject of ADHD has been so encouraging and enjoyable that in hindsight, it hard to believe how far I have come in my ADHD management, given that it has been such a pleasurable experience.”
